The Ac'cents

The Ac'cents were a band from Indianapolis who apparently made four albums during the mid-sixties, the last for RCA Camden. Other than that bit of information, and the fact that the RCA album could be mine for $40 (from a Danish website!), I was able to locate NOTHING about this band.

The record label, Forward Productions, gives an address of 1616 N. Elmhurst in Indianapolis, which is a residence (in need of a new driveway):

I wonder if there was once a recording studio in the basement? Ah, mysteries.

Do we dig the little drawing of the lads on the back cover?

As for the rest of the album, random thoughts, which is all I am capable of any more:

* I’m a sucker for just about any version of “Call Me”, especially that yummy bridge.

* If you’d ever wondered what a version of “Music to Watch Girls By” recorded by Cyrkle might have sounded like, now you can find out.

* They do a rousing (and borderline surf) version of Hava Nageela (sic), the inclusion of which says “wedding band” to me. Love it!

* Though I docked points for their version of the insufferable song “Impossible Dream”--odds are, the grandma that financed the making of this album insisted upon it.

* And at the end of Malaguena.......DRUM SOLOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Whoo!

Tschingta Tschingta Bummtara

Today’s trip is a jolly Teutonic foray back to the 1930s, where apparently all the gents would stand on the street corners lustily singing such rousing tunes as “Tschingta Tschingta Bummtara” (the sound of hobnail boots on cobblestones), “Ruck-zuck!” (the sound of shattering crystal) and “Ich Geh auf Große Fahrt, Marie” (imagine your own sound effect for Marie, you shouldn’t have too much trouble). Manly good times! Jawoll!

And should you get all misty-eyed over this fine album on the Fiesta label (I guess “fiesta” is at least from the same continent), there is a second Fiesta record you could look for called “Vorwärts! Marsch!” The album cover depicts a giant eagle looking particularly predatory sitting atop a map of the world. Very inspirational indeed!

In fact it’s inspiring me to look into relocating to the Sudetenland where I think I’d be welcomed with open arms.

Guaranteed Perfect

This is what’s wrong with America, I bought this Latin Dance Time album because the sticker on the front said “Guaranteed Perfect”, so I would have something NICE to share with you.

And when I take the album out at home, why, it was absolutely filthy. So naturally I completely cleaned it up by the recommended LP audiophile standards, a little spit and the bottom of my t-shirt, it might have been more successful had I not been drinking Hawaiian Punch at the time, I don’t know. So I guess the sound quality is just somewhat south (SSE, actually) of perfect. But that insistent tsch-tsch-tsch of the mambo clave beat comes out loud and clear, or maybe that’s just a scratch on the vinyl. “Guaranteed Perfect”, indeed.

That said, “Koldoba” is a very excellent cut, what with hooting and hollering and tres dramatique “summon the toreador” trumpet parts and all. “Mambo con Fuego” is a real barn-burner too, should you be in the market for some music to assist you in the removal of some outbuildings on your homestead. And “Chombo Rumba”, with its endearing skip at the start of the tune, will have you chiming in with the cheery refrain “lotsa caramaaaaaal wedgies....."

Clyde Otis

Clyde “Shuggie” Otis, was born in the lap of luxury, being the scion of the elevator manufacturing family and all. He chucked it all to write such massive hits as “I Kneel at Your Throne” which is sadly not part of today’s album. But there are plenty of hep tunes to “perk even the most jaded ear and cause the most apathetic toe to start tapping”, as the liner notes so waggishly aver. As Alexander Pope once said, possibly to one-time Cardinal Keith Hernandez, ‘In lazy Apathy let Stoics boast, Their Virtue fix'd; ‘tis fix'd as in a frost’, so this one should frost yer tootsies, so goeth the Papal Statement. And having a full set of apathetic toes, I can attest to the veracity of that testimony.

Chile Lindo

I gotta say this about Chilean men, they can sure work a serape.

You can watch the video below, and in 3:47 you get the gist of three of the songs on the album PLUS some fancy handkerchief swirling. But if you insist upon downloading the album, you can get it here.

Sloppy Laff of the Party

Today's fine piece of hilarity is courtesy of Mr. Leroy "Sloppy" Daniels, who made an uncredited appearance in the Fred Astaire movie The Band Wagon as a dancing shoeshiner. Sadly, we're not treated to any of Mr. Daniels' fancy steppin' here, this album is just your predictable Dooto party album that apparently I am just waaaay too white to be able to appreciate. Or waaaay too sober.

The first half of side one had a giant scratch on it and was unlistenable (quality-wise, not content), so you only get part of the album. Somehow I think you might not be too upset about it.

Paging Dr. Fun, We're Back!

Helllllloooooooooooooo bitchessssssssssssss we're back from overseas and ready to stock your playlists with the unlistenable and unbearable!

The lovely children on the album cover really seem to be under the spell of Dr. Fun, don't they? Must have been recorded live at the McMartin Day Care Center.

I didn't have the stomach or patience to record the whole album.....what I mean is, the person who posted this album didn't. I don't rip vinyl any more, it's just wrong, but I have no qualms about linking to those who DO. But who needs another version of Waltzing Matilda or My Bonnie anyway, right? What you get is the MEAT of the album--The Columbus Song, Pepino the Italian Mouse, The Gold Rush Medley, The Echo Song, We Saw the Sea, and......

This Blog is Screwed

Perhaps the gravestone images are a bit premature, but we all knew it was inevitable....I have drifted gently below the radar for nearly 4 years, but now there are regular reports coming in against some of the music posts I have done and they are being removed. I suppose total shutdown is next, we shall have to see how the story unfolds. Please click the Facebook link on the right or check in with me at PCL Linkdump, easydreamer.blogspot.com if one day you try to come here and it's gone. Love you all and your rabid support. I still believe music is meant to be heard and available, no matter how obscure. No matter how small the potential audience, and lack of commercial appeal for large companies to make available. My rips are low quality (really low quality) and if it's in print I tell you to go buy a better copy. Sorry for the incoherent post, I traveled from Bergen Norway to Indianapolis IN over a period of 20 hours yesterday and am severely sleep deprived. But I believe the music will prevail!
