"Charmingly inept" is a compliment around here, and today's album fits the phrase. I don't believe I've ever heard an out of tune accordion before, or maybe it was everyone else in the band who is a little off. Nevertheless, it's fun listening if you like putting a rose stem between your teeth and sashaying about.
The liner notes tell us that the tango was a scandalous dance--simply scandalous, I say!
"A bible conference in Atlanta, Georgia heard a minister characterize the tango as a 'reversion to the ape and a confirmation of the Darwin theory'". Wow, a Georgia preacher that acknowledges evolution, there's a switch.

Hey! Tango's.
The preacher's comments reminds me the Tango was possibly developed in the "dating" houses of Montevideo Uruguay (my hometown) and Buenos Aries.
Hi, Baikinange !
I dare say that for accordion lovers your blog is becoming more and more attractive. This post with tango's played by famous french accordionist Jo Basile, well, seems a nice addition to another wonderful post -
"Happy Accordion - Feelings".
As about Jo Basile (Joss Bselli) - he performed in a period of 40-60, and sometimes used also electronic accordion. Actually in his paying style he took a lot from the great french accordionist - swing master Gus Vseur (whose daughter became a whife for the Joss). For example, one can hear specific vibrations of the sound. Notable is that Joss also accompanied for Patachou - the world prised french femme singer (also actress in films and TV serials).
So, good post indeed, highly appreciated.
Greetings from Russia.

Thank you for the interesting background information!
Sorri ! Returning back I noticed misprints in the mentioned names (oh, old keyboard ...).
They must be Viseur and Baselli.
Both played button accordions and were very important figures in turning tradition french musette music to swing. Grands !
Those who became interested in Baselli's performance - may visit DaBoss' blog http://fatcitycigarlounge.blogspot.com and download the album "Jo Basile - Paris With Love (1963)". It is in good quality.
Good luck,
Supr
