Ping Pong Percussion

Oooh. I like this little cheapie, such a low-budget production that there are no liner notes, nor musician credits.
The music ranges from Hawaiian to out of tune honky tonk, out-weirds Perez Prado, explores the “Hot Diggety” side of “Espana”, and drags out practically every imaginable kind of percussive instrument.

The Pinnacle of Percussion
Pirouette Records, manufactured at Synthetic Plastics Co. of Newark N.J.

Blue Tango
Mambo Viva
Hawaiian Sea Chant
Cordoba
Asiwanda
Meet Me in St. Louis, Louie
China Doll
La Paloma Cha Cha
Chanting Guitars
Espana
Sha Sha Calor
Red Wing

I like how the stereo gimmick intro to "Blue Tango" has NOTHING TO DO whatsover with the song that follows! Like they were two different recordings (& they probably were).

In fact, I'd guess that this entire album was cobbled together from any number of other sources - "Asiwanda" is the exact same recording from the "congo Percussion" album by Chief Bey & his Royal Household.

Gotta love them budget labels.

God bless the internets! Blogs like this give you a chance to finally hear some of the stuff you passed up all these years,at flea markets and thrift stores. Other than the essential RCA "Stereo Action" Lps,I I find a lot of the "ping pong" records of the period uninteresting or unlistenable, someone once recommended the Capitol "Staged for Stereo" series to me,and I thought it was pretty dull stuff, when I finally tracked down a couple of the records. This,on the other hand,is inspired schlock, essential to any "incredibly strange" collection. It also sounds more professionally recorded than a lot of the other SP records of the time.A guy ay the local flea market, who brings the same old vinyl every week, had an unplayed copy of "Congo Percussion", I bought it after listening to this, and went home happy.
