The One and Only Pearl Bailey

What to do at 5am when you can’t sleep? Post a Pearl Bailey album.

Last March I posted the music to “Pearl Bailey: Naughty But Nice” which was another album supposed to be for “adults only”. That one was enjoyable enough, but this one’s the real charmer. And despite the suggestive keyhole on the cover and the “for adult listening” warning, there is little if any innuendo here—just good, solid performances and a swinging backup band.

The One and Only Pearl Bailey

A Porter’s Love Song to a Chambermaid
A Man Is a Necessary Evil
The Gypsy Goofed
My Man
You Waited Too Long
Easy Street
I Can’t Rock and Roll to Save My Soul
Everybod Loves My Baby
There’s Plenty More Where Tnat Came From
That’s My Weakness Now

Thanks for posting! I used to listen to this when I was a pre-schooler and throughout my young formative years, as it was part of my parents' record collection. Helped create a life-long love for jazz. If the burst water heater and ensuing mold hadn't destroyed half my vinyl, I'd be sorely tempted to join you in ripping and posting some of my old stuff...

Another version -vocal this time- of "Everybody Loves My Baby" on the same day? I think I'll have to make do with calling this a coincidence...
A nice version of the celebrated Mistinguett's "Mon Homme" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PF9VitjfdII (My Man) -which I hear it for the first time in english- too! Bwavo Bai(kinange)ley!

PS: Does Mrs. Baily really says in "I Can't Rock & Roll To Save My Soul": "Oh, Mr. Arthur Murray I can use you in a hurry...", or it's my illusion???...
Well, well, well, how do you like that?!

There are still Arthur Murray dance studios in my city, there's one maybe 3 miles away from me. I would love to take cha cha lessons one day.

If you haven't, see "Shall We Dance ?"
A hymn to dance and dance lessons... ;)

Thank you for this post. Don't you have the two missing tracks of this album? They Are: Sweet Georgia Brown and There's a Man In My Life

All the best

Rob

I don't know if there was a re-release of this album (on CD maybe?), but my copy has a total of 10 songs only--no "Georgia" or "Man in my Life", sorry.
