Doug Clark & the Hot Nuts were lords of the toga party and masters of the single entendre, providing the soundtrack for the drunken debauchery of 60’s frat party life. One of Doug Clark’s greatest disappointments was being passed over for the toga party band in “Animal House”—rightly so, since they practically invented the genre.
These days, songs such as Roly Poly , Ring Dang Doo , and My Ding-a-ling are practically tame enough to play at a child’s birthday party, but at the time, they were quite racy.
Doug died in 2002, but the band still performs (with his son at the helm) as “Doug Clark’s Hot Nuts”. You can even book them
your next soiree for, well, peanuts—a mere $2500-3500 per gig.

My dad use to sell Doug Clark party records in his record store back in 1968 in the city of Norfolk Va.. .Doug had stopped in the store on occasion when in the area... good times.. B in Durham
Noticed your post regarding Doug Clark and the Hot Nuts. I'm holding in my hand right now (Well, it's on the desk in front of me.)- a DHN 45 bought about 12 years ago. Title: "Baby Let Me Bang your Box" part 1 B/W part 2. (sorry, hope you're not offended)
Back in like 1966-67 I had a friend up in Muncy, a town in central Pa. (I lived in the Philly suburbs, long story.) Anyway, during one of my visits up there my friend Charley, who played in a garage band, and I went to see a Battle of the Bands sponsored by the local High School. We were in like 10th grade. This one band was supposedly gonna play this song I mentioned. My friend Charley went over to the stage and said to the lead singer, "Hey man, are you gonna play it ?!" The guy kind of held his palms up and replied, Well, yeah, we'll try"
Here the Principle had gotten wind and told all the bands they were gonna get expelled if they played the song. Of course everybody wussed out. Not a Jim Morrison amoung 'em! Just a little anecdote.
By the way I appreciate being able to comment on some of the stuff like "Sanders' Truckstop" the other day. Amazon doesn't seem to want my reviews; sent a couple 3-4 days ago, haven't even been published yet. No baudy words even.
Thanks, Dutchman
Thanks, I haven't heard these guys since I ws in college in the late 60s!
